Duration: c. 1h 15m without intermission

In his solo recital, Giuseppe Guarrera takes on a pair of highly challenging works by two composers who were celebrated performers in their own right: the program includes Lizst’s Rhapsodie espagnole and Rachmaninoff’s Corelli Variations, which in 1931 prompted the composer to remark: “I can’t play my own music!” The Sicilian-born pianist also presents Tchaikovsky’s G-major Sonata and the world premiere of a new piece by Guillem Palomar. Like Guarrera himself, the young Spanish composer is a graduate of the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
