The world-renowned and critically acclaimed pianist, chamber musician and conductor Sir An-drás Schiff, known for his video broadcasted masterclasses, will be joining the faculty of the Bar-enboim-Said Akademie, which opened its doors in 2016. András Schiff has a longstanding close cooperation with the Barenboim-Said projects. Already in 2008, he performed a piano recital at the Barenboim-Said Foundation in Ramallah. His lecture concerts at the Pierre Boulez Hall last year were enthusiastically received by students and audiences alike.
The Barenboim-Said Akademie offers an unprecedented conservatory education for talented, young musicians from the Middle East and North Africa, uniting intensive music performance studies with a grounding in the humanities – all within the heart of historic Berlin. Its origin is the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded in 1999 by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said in Weimar. The building was made possible by private donations through the Daniel Barenboim Stiftung and financial support of the federal government. Its concert hall, designed by Frank Gehry, is named after the composer and conductor Pierre Boulez.
