A Day With Jörg Widmann
For Jörg Widmann, the Pierre Boulez Saal and the Barenboim-Said Akademie have become a kind of home away from home: he is closely associated with the institutions as composer, clarinetist, and teacher. On April 27 from 10 am to 4 pm, visitors from Berlin and abroad could explore his work from many different perspectives in all parts of the building.
In four concert programs, each presented twice in the Pierre Boulez Saal, students of the Barenboim-Said Akademie performed some of Widmann’s chamber music works as well as pieces by composers that are especially close to his heart. Jörg Widmann himself was heard as clarinetist in his solo Fantasie and in Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen. The Open House also included the two interactive workshops, suitable for children as well as adults, Skelett for All and Hallstudie in the Mozart Auditorium are inspired by Widmann’s playful way of interacting with percussion instruments and with the piano.
