biography

After completing his flute studies with Jean-Michel Tanguy at the Mannheim Musikhochschule in 1995, Leonid Grubin continued his education with Maxence Larrieu, receiving his Artist Diploma in 2001. Since 2002, he has been principal piccolo flutist at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden under music director Daniel Barenboim. 

Other orchestras and companies he has performed with include the Berliner Philharmoniker, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Camerata Bern, the MDR and SWR Symphony Orchestras, and the Dresden Staatsoper and Deutsche Oper Berlin. 

He has been on the faculty of Berlin’s International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein since 2016 and of the “Hanns Eisler" School of Music since 2017 and teaches flute and piccolo at the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
