Folk Songs for Mezzo-Soprano and Ensemble
Led by Italian conductor and pianist Giuseppe Mentuccia, the Boulez Ensemble explores works ranging from the 18th century to the present day, with Vivaldi’s 1705 trio sonata “La Follia” and Luca Francesconi’s Insieme II, written in 2016, providing the chronological points of reference. The program also includes Berio’s Folk Songs—born from the composer’s “utopian dream” of “uniting folk music and ‘our music’”—as well as Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik and Dallapiccola’s Piccola musica notturna, whose title references Mozart’s famous composition.
