Scarlatti and Berio form the cornerstones. In his arrangement of Bach’s chaconne for solo violin, Busoni brings a Baroque masterpiece into the late 19th century, while Liszt’s highly virtuosic compositions take both the violin works of Paganini and the poetry of Petrarch as their inspiration.
