BIOGRAPHY

Joseph Pearson is a writer and cultural historian based in Berlin. His book Berlin (Reaktion/ U Chicago Press distr.), a portrait of the capital, was published in July 2017. He is the essayist of the Schaubühne Theatre, and, since 2008, the voice of The Needle, one of Berlin’s most popular blogs.

He contributes regularly to literary journals, such as the New England Review; press outlets, such as the BBC and Newsweek; and his work has been translated into many languages. He has taught at Columbia University in New York City, New York University in Berlin, and at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). Born in Canada, he was a scholarship student at the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy, before receiving his doctorate in history at Cambridge University, UK. At the Academy, he teaches creative and arts writing.
