biography

John Crutchfield teaches in the Writing Center. Originally from the Appalachian Mountains (USA), he studied at The University of North Carolina (BA in Religious Studies, BA in German Language and Literature 1994), and at Cornell University (MFA in Creative Writing 1998, PhD in English Language and Literature 2002). His poems, essays and translations have appeared in a variety of literary and cultural journals, and his plays have been produced independently in New York, Berlin, and elsewhere. At present, he is Associate Artistic Director of The Sublime Theater & Press, for whom he writes, directs, designs and performs. He is also a musician - albeit of a humble kind: he sings and plays traditional Appalachian folk music on banjo and guitar.
