biography

Pianist, pedagogue, content creator, and mother of three - Yael Kareth has recently been appointed Leibinger Professor for Transcultural Music Mediation and Pedagogy at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin. Prior to her Berlin relocation, Yael was Head of Music department at the Israeli Opera, where she also worked as a correpetiteur, musical director, lecturer and content writer. She is a founding member of the Israeli Chamber Project, a chamber music ensemble with which she had performed and taught regularly around Israel. Yael has specialized in lecture-combined concerts, in which she creates intercultural connections between different artistic mediums, as well as vast experience in mediating classical music content through written and digital mediums.

In 2008 Yael has been invited to Berlin by Maestro Daniel Barenboim, under whose baton she has played in two European tours of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, alongside performances of contemporary chamber music and Lied in Festivals around Europe. These experiences have contributed to Yael's outlook on the crucial role music plays in society and politics, and led her to pursue a Master's degree in Public Policy - an expression of her growing desire to integrate music into the public arena and agenda.
During the years she spent in Berlin, Yael also worked at the Berliner Staatsoper and at the opera and theatre department of the UdK (University of Arts).

As an enthusiastic Lied pianist and chamber musician, Yael has performed with singers Thomas Hampson, Rinat Shaham in Berlin, and with Waltraud Meier at the Louvre Museum in Paris as a part of a special installation directed by Patrice Cheraux. She has participated in international chamber music festivals such as the Ravinia music festival, Itzhak Perlman program in NY, the Jerusalem chamber music festival, the Aspen music festival, the ''Heidelberger Frühling'' festival, Prussia cove, and others. Yael has also performed extensively as soloist and as orchestra pianist, under conductors such as Maestro Zubin Mehta, Lahav Shani, Omer Wellber, Ilan Volkov and others.
