The founding rector of the Barenboim-Said Akademie, Michael Naumann, will resign from his duties after his 80th birthday. He will be succeeded by Regula Rapp, currently rector of the Stuttgart University of Music and the Performing Arts. Naumann and Daniel Barenboim, GMD at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, are “extraordinarily happy” with the decision of the former chief dramaturg of the Staatsoper, trained cembalist and musicologist to return to Berlin. Looking back on his collaboration with Daniel Barenboim and his colleagues, Naumann says:
I feel lucky to have had the privilege, together with a young, enthusiastic team, to build an international institute dedicated to the most beautiful thing in the world, which is music. Michael Naumann
Regula Rapp, who served as director of the prestigious Swiss Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and since 2012 has led one of the most renowned arts colleges in German-speaking countries, is looking forward to the new task:
It is an honor for me to be asked to contribute my experience and energy as rector of a very special conservatory that not only stands for the very highest quality but also embodies the international cultural and political task of fostering Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said’s “experiment in utopia,” a utopia that could not be more musical, more human, and most of all more timely.
